As its name suggests, the ensemble Dança Amorosa enjoys playing with the idea that dance is an expression of joy, love, passion and intrigue. Breathing life into the early dance world and combining dance skills with strong stage presence the group’s events are always wild and exciting. A swish of costumes, the fluttering of fans, a secret glance and a pulsing heart - experience the thrills and spills of a renaissance ball with all its intrigues, lover’s intimacies and showing off. Or see a medieval tapestry brought to life with exotic dancing, juggling and acrobatics.
Specialising in medieval and renaissance dances from 12th-17th centuries the group expands from one to eight dancers depending on the programme. Performances range from costumed theatre pieces to modern interpretations of early dance music and the group is always looking for new ways to present the music and dance. The group was set up by Ann Allen in 2006 and draws on dancers and musicians from Switzerland, Italy, Germany, France and England.

Gloriana Music and Dances for Queen Elizabeth I: An ageing Queen looks back over her reign and enjoys again her favourite dances tinged with political intrigue.
An Italian Dream: A grand Italian Ball brought to life with music and songs from 15th century Italy.
Education:
The ensemble has given 15th and 16th century dance and dance music courses in UK, Germany and Switzerland. A special workshop for school children also available.
