General description
Brighton Early Music Festival was formed in 2003. In 2006, we put on 22 public events, 83 education/outreach sessions, plus 3 “umbrella events”, reaching an audience of 4000. BBC Radio 3 broadcast at least one event each year. We present a wide range of events mirroring the full range of early music approaches. We are looking for truly original proposals from artists, which ideally will fit with the festival’s aims of exploring: cross-genre work which straddles the divide between classical, folk, world and jazz; cross-art platform work that combines music with theatre, dance, film, art, story-telling, historical context; new and unusual repertoire; mainstream repertoire performed in an unusual way or which provides opportunities for educational work or participation. We are keen to support artists of all ages and experience, who can demonstrate how they can help us deliver this remit.
